"The Other Guys"

"The Other Guys" is a movie that came out in 2010, ever since it came out, it has been one of my all time favorites. To give you a little summary, it is about two detectives, Gamble and Hoitz, in NYC who are considered the "losers" if you will. Nobody respects them as police officers, and they are always ragged on. They begin to catch on to this case, which nobody believes. Nobody wants them to continue with this case, but they do anyways. In the end, they crack the case and solve it. They become the hero's in the end, despite them being nobodies in beginning. Both Detectives were placed together because they both messed up on the job before. They have both made poor decisions and made themselves look like fools. They certainly do not help their own case. I was drawn to the movie because it had to do with law enforcement. There aren't too many comical LE movies out there. I just wish they would make a second one.

The movie has a lot to do with bullies in the beginning, in todays society everybody knows a bully, has been bullied or even is one. Its always nice to see the underdogs pull it off in the end, after all, it is the "American Dream" to make it in the end. To be the hero. As many people would look past the underlying message it is saying, the message is clear to those who pick up on it. The message is, to never underestimate the underdogs. The detectives just wanted to fit in, and be like the others. In the end, it makes them look even better due to the fact that nobody believed in them.

Over the years, movies and other forms of entertainment have mastered the effect of sending messages through the storyline. As I stated above, the message will go over most people heads as they watch the movie. Some people have an eagle eye for this, finding a message within the story line.

Police using social media is an effective community policing tactic

As we all know, the relationship between police and the citizens is a bit rocky in todays society. With this being said, the question arises, How can we build better relationships?

In order to find an effective way to do so, we must look at what the public is into, to find a common ground to start building the relationship. Almost everybody is on social media, it is a good thing, its also a bad thing.  A lot of the negative police attention is posted on to social media. So, this is a great place to start spreading positivity and connecting with the community. Police have now turned to social media to show the public their humorous side, to show the people that they are humans too. By being on social media, people feel more comfortable reaching out via social media, and they can see the humans behind the badge.

Police have gained a bad rep in recent times.. To show the community that they are here to help, rather than hurt, we must show them that the police are humans too. They love, feel, hate, cry and so on, just as the people do too. I think that showing the public that the police are humans too, will alter their attitude towards law enforcement.

There are many benefits that come from community policing. Not only does it build relations and helps the public like the police more, but it serves as an effective way to fight crime. The more involved the police are in a community, the more comfortable they will be talking to the police about problems, crime that has been curing, ect. The police then can use this inside information to come up with an action plan to solve the problem where it lies, and to find an effective tactic in fighting specific crime. In its simplest form, community policing creates a partnership between law enforcement and residents. The more involved law enforcement is with the residents they are sworn to protect, the more residents can help law enforcement achieve their goals" (Mitch, Dec. 2016).

We do not want the relationship between police and the citizens to get any worse, we want it to improve greatly. This will help both the police and the citizens. Everyone will be happy, ad crimes will be solved.
