Police using social media is an effective community policing tactic
As we all know, the relationship between police and the citizens is a bit rocky in todays society. With this being said, the question arises, How can we build better relationships?
In order to find an effective way to do so, we must look at what the public is into, to find a common ground to start building the relationship. Almost everybody is on social media, it is a good thing, its also a bad thing. A lot of the negative police attention is posted on to social media. So, this is a great place to start spreading positivity and connecting with the community. Police have now turned to social media to show the public their humorous side, to show the people that they are humans too. By being on social media, people feel more comfortable reaching out via social media, and they can see the humans behind the badge.
Police have gained a bad rep in recent times.. To show the community that they are here to help, rather than hurt, we must show them that the police are humans too. They love, feel, hate, cry and so on, just as the people do too. I think that showing the public that the police are humans too, will alter their attitude towards law enforcement.
There are many benefits that come from community policing. Not only does it build relations and helps the public like the police more, but it serves as an effective way to fight crime. The more involved the police are in a community, the more comfortable they will be talking to the police about problems, crime that has been curing, ect. The police then can use this inside information to come up with an action plan to solve the problem where it lies, and to find an effective tactic in fighting specific crime. In its simplest form, community policing creates a partnership between law enforcement and residents. The more involved law enforcement is with the residents they are sworn to protect, the more residents can help law enforcement achieve their goals" (Mitch, Dec. 2016).
We do not want the relationship between police and the citizens to get any worse, we want it to improve greatly. This will help both the police and the citizens. Everyone will be happy, ad crimes will be solved.

Community and Togetherness: A View on Hockey.
While I was searching for topics to write about I had to think deeply about my interests and how I look at them differently than a simple spectator. That's when I thought of hockey. All my life I have loved watching and learning about the sport. While I have never played on a team (Because I can hardly skate without bruising myself) I still love hockey.
This brought me to deeper thought. Why do I love hockey? Is it the fast-paced play style of the game? or maybe even the rough and tough aspects of the game you don't see in many other sports. No, my favorite part about hockey is the community that comes with being a fan. I have been to countless Boston Bruins games and have experienced feelings of joy, bliss, heartbreak, and hope. Sometimes all in the same game! This feeling comes from being in a stadium packed with people who have at least one thing in common; their love for Hockey.
I have made so many friends and met many people just based on our shared interest in the Boston Bruins. You haven't really made a bond with someone until you experience the devastating heartbreak that was the 2019 Stanley Cup Championship Game 7. Moments like that aren't seen as necessarily bad in my opinion. I got to share something with not only my friends but all of Boston. And while we all may have that scar, at least it is something we all dealt with together.
Hockey is a beautiful thing, but the sense of community, friendship, and togetherness I feel when even think about the sport is what enthralls me the most.
